Red Ribbon Ball Launch 2009

Alex-Best

Alex Best launches Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball in Belfast

The Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball was launched on the 19th June 2009 in honour of late Colin Angus, founder of Aids 2000. Alex Best, a close friend of Colin, flew into Belfast for the event which was held on what would have been Colin’s 41st birthday. The launch took place at the Roost Bar, after which friends were invited to tie ribbons around ‘Colin’s Tree of Life’ to celebrate his legacy. George Best’s ex-wife said she had not been back in the city since her friend’s funeral. “I’m honoured to be invited to tie the first ribbon onto Colin’s tree of life, which will remain outside the bar for one week so other friends of Colin’s can write their messages too,” she said. “This tree and messages will then be given to Colin’s mum and dad Dorothy and Ken, so they can plant it in their back garden. “The launch of the Red Ribbon Ball is poignant as Monday would have been Colin’s 41st birthday. “This year is also the 10th anniversary of Aids 2000 which Colin was looking forward to.” Also attending the launch were various other professionals from the entertainment industry. Tickets for the Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball (28 November 2009, Europa Hotel) cost £75.00 per person to include a four-course meal, drinks reception and entertainment.

Colin, you will be sadly missed

Colin Angus
Colin Angus

During the early hours of Saturday 13th December 2008, Colin was driving home from Belfast when his car left the Craigantlet Road close to Cairnwood forest park.

“It is with deep regret that AIDS 2000 announces the tragic and untimely death of its founder and Chairperson Colin Angus. Colin was an amazing ambassador for the cause in raising the profile of HIV and Aids in Northern Ireland. And he worked tirelessly to raise funds for the 2Kare Trust at the Royal Victoria Hospital. A well known and much loved media personality, Colin will be sorely missed by us at the charity and by all those who knew him. In honour of our great friend, we will be organising a spectacular Red Ribbon Ball in December 2009 when the charity will be 10 years old. Rest assured AIDS 2000 will continue to raise much needed funds for those affected by the disease in the province. We trust we can count on your help and support in the future. May our special friend Colin rest in peace.”
