Alex Best launches Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball in Belfast
The Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball was launched on the 19th June 2009 in honour of late Colin Angus, founder of Aids 2000. Alex Best, a close friend of Colin, flew into Belfast for the event which was held on what would have been Colin’s 41st birthday. The launch took place at the Roost Bar, after which friends were invited to tie ribbons around ‘Colin’s Tree of Life’ to celebrate his legacy. George Best’s ex-wife said she had not been back in the city since her friend’s funeral. “I’m honoured to be invited to tie the first ribbon onto Colin’s tree of life, which will remain outside the bar for one week so other friends of Colin’s can write their messages too,” she said. “This tree and messages will then be given to Colin’s mum and dad Dorothy and Ken, so they can plant it in their back garden. “The launch of the Red Ribbon Ball is poignant as Monday would have been Colin’s 41st birthday. “This year is also the 10th anniversary of Aids 2000 which Colin was looking forward to.” Also attending the launch were various other professionals from the entertainment industry. Tickets for the Aids 2000 Red Ribbon Ball (28 November 2009, Europa Hotel) cost £75.00 per person to include a four-course meal, drinks reception and entertainment.
